After paving the path for years, from the Vision Efficient Dynamics concept to the BMW i-series teasers, the BMW i3 Electric Car is officially here. The new all-electric BMW is a four-seater pure electric vehicle with a 170 hp motor and a driving range of up to 100 miles. It is designed as the ultimate city car, a roomy compact with a fuel-free drivetrain that can charge quickly at home or at the office. It’s a welcome new challenger to the Nissan Leaf and the Tesla Model S, one arriving from an adored German mark with a long history of producing luxury vehicles.
The BMW i3 electric car will arrive in American dealerships in mid-2014, starting at just over $41,000. Sure, that may be a high price for a compact city car, but not for one that will never bog you down at the gas pump. It’s all-electric driving in style, and from one of the most respected Euro car brands in business today.
