A sharp and monolithic new festival hall rises from a central Austrian valley not far from Vienna. This work by Delugan Meissl Associated Architects is designed to house concerts, theater and other cultural exhibitions of Austrian tradition. The design of the structure is sharply geometric, almost sculptural in nature. Its form is a statement of its own, inspiring awe and appreciation in visitors of the hall as they approach the building. It is a long standing tradition in theatrical architecture that reaches back thousands of years: the form that houses the living art of theater is to be designed as art itself. In this, Delugan Meissl and Associated Architects has created a success in design. [photography by brigidia gonzalez]
