Throughout the history of amphibious vehicles, the emphasis has been on cars that can swim, not boats that can drive. The Iguana 29 Amphibious Yacht changes that, existing as a center console speed yacht with the ability to rise out of the water and drive along the land. Iguana 29 does so not with wheels, but a pair of retractable treads that lower into the water and carry the boat onto a hard surface.
While the treads won’t carry the Iguana 29 up to road-worthy speed, the point here is about all terrain utility, not a boat you can drive to work. This boat could do away with the need for waterside docks, as you could drive the Iguana from the shoreline to a nearby garage, and park it immediately next to your terrestrial car. Say you’re taking an overnight trip to a nearby island– just pull the Iguana 29 up onto the beach, and you can “dock” without the need for traditional moorings.
The important question– “how much?” The Iguana 29 does not yet have a price tag, as it is still in prototype stages. Expect more news to come out of this exciting little ground boat.
