The Shrine of the Virgin of Antigua is a divine structure designed by Otxotorena Arquitectos set in the La Rioja region of Spain. Its subtle nature composed of modest materials creates a peaceful environment geared towards paying homage to a higher power. The structure’s isolated presence among grassy hills is the site for undeterred spiritual reflection serving a nearby village of 2000 people. The focal point of this elongated building is a preserved, subtly embellished archway standing underneath a delicately-angled planar roof. Light cascades through open arcades leading up to the enclosed holy chapel. [via designboom]
