A tropical environment calls for a tropical habitat, and The Nest House by a21studio is right at home in southern Vietnam. This sustainable steel structure eschews concrete and brick for metal paneling and its cost-saving, long-life benefits. Its open and ported interior allows for passive cooling and a sense of inner community, connecting living spaces with the private areas above. Mesh screens hang on the structures outer walls, allowing plant life to grow around the structure for added privacy and the feeling of a natural connection with the local environment. Inside, reclaimed and restored furnishings keep costs low while reducing the waste footprint this home leaves on local Thuan An, Vietnam. In total, it’s a well-designed structure for low-cost, sustainable living. [architect: a21studio photography: hiroyuki oki via: archdaily]
